The use of magnesium-mediated carbometallation in tandem reactions and multi-component couplings

Abstract

Magnesium-mediated carbometallation has been applied towards the synthesis of a variety of diverse synthetic targets. A novel carbometallation-palladium cross coupling reaction has been developed allowing for quick access to a wide variety of tetra-substituted alkenes. This methodology has been applied towards the synthesis of the anti-cancer agent (Z)-tamoxifen (66) and various analogues (82). Additional work has been done on the development of a new carbometallation-annulation reaction for the synthesis of unique bicyclic dienes based on natural chiral compounds such as camphor (124).
