On March 23, 2010, US President Barack Obama signed into law the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) [1], commonly called "Obamacare". Representing the most signi cant revision of the American health care system in over four decades, PPACA is aimed primarily at decreasing the number of uninsured Americans and reducing the overall out-of pocket costs of individual health care.
