Abstract
This Thesis discusses the different techniques used in subjective and objective measurement for MPEG-2 compressed video for broadcast according to the ITU-R BT-500 recommendation for both world standards ATSC and DVB. The technique for subjective/objective quality correlation described in ITU recommendations and VQEG work [VQEG00] for Double Stimulus Continuous Quality Scale (DSCQS) & Single Stimulus Continuous Quality Evaluation (SSCQE) is used to generalize an application for In-Field operational calibration standard of subjective/objective digital video evaluation for TV network and broadcast stations. A practical experiment for validating the correlation between the subjective evaluations of some MPEG2 coded streams vs. the objective measurement obtained using the IFN/Rohde & Schwarz single stimulus blockiness measurement algorithm is realized, demonstrating the correlation to other measurements and the ease and applicability to perform this in the field.
