The phenomenon of hysteresis is observed in many branches of science. Several attempts have been made in the past for the mathematical modelling of this phenomenon. In this thesis, hysteresis is considered from a general point of view. Basic features are described and the most known models are reviewed. Finally, two types of models are proposed.
