This thesis addresses the performance analysis and improvement of Wireless IEEE 1394 networks. Wireless IEEE 1394 appears to be the only existing QoS capable broadband wireless home networking solution that has been standardized. Our study investigates the performance of the original Wireless 1394 protocol. It also addresses protocol extensions that improve the original Wireless 1394 network, as well as add new useful functionalities. The performance analysis has taken into consideration the behaviour of the wireless channel through simple, yet effective and widely used model. The evaluation demonstrated the strong potential of Wireless IEEE 1394. They also uncovered some weaknesses, which our protocol extensions addressed successfully.
