Abstract
The size of the tank in solar water pumping systems is often roughly estimated in conventional design procedures. Consequently, problems such as the heavy financial burden of an over-sized tank or, on the contrary, a waste of water resources due to overtop spillage in the case of a too small cistern are, unfortunately, quite common. These problems lead to discontentment among users when they have to deal with periods of privation and/or economic losses. The analysis of the behaviour of the different components of a solar system made possible the realization of computerized models, which have been later validated with data gathered in the field. In order to simulate a wide range of systems, the software developed in this thesis offers the required flexibility to input the parameters of the equipment to study as well as the climatic data for the expected operational environment. The software permits the prediction of performance of new systems and the diagnosis of existing ones.
