Abstract
This dissertation investigates the placement of object pronouns in Middle French infinitival constructions. The working hypothesis of this thesis is that the evolution of the placement of object pronouns is due to changes in the lexical properties of AGR and INFL rather than to a new type of subcategorization of the main verb. The analysis of the placement of object pronouns is based on a study of two texts of the Middle French period, Les Cent Nouvelles Nouvelles de Vigneulles and Les Cent Nouvelles Nouvelles Anonymes.
