Deposit your Research

We invite all uOttawa faculty, graduate students and researchers to contribute their research and teaching materials to uO Research.

Why share your work?

  • Increased visibility online – your content is indexed by search engines like Google Scholar.
  • Usage statistics – download counts can help demonstrate the impact of your work.
  • Permanent URLs and DOIs – link to your work knowing these won’t change or break.
  • Support Open Access – society as a whole benefits when research is shared widely.

How to share your work:

Depositing previously published work

Depending on your publisher’s policy, you can share a version of your work online in uO Research. Learn more about which version you can share.

  1. Log in using your uoAccess credentials and start a new submission.
  2. If your published work has a unique ID like a DOI, ArXiV or PubMed ID, select the option “Import Publication Details”. Enter the unique ID and click the search button. The system will retrieve the details of the publication.
  3. Select the collection that corresponds to your department or research institute, click Next >, and then fill out any additional fields that you would like to include.
  4. If your publication does not have a unique ID, simply select your collection, click Next >, and fill out the details of the publication. It is recommended to include the journal ISSN.
  5. On the next screen, upload your file. If you used the import publication details feature, or included the journal ISSN, the journal’s self-archiving policy retrieved from the Sherpa/Romeo database will be displayed.
  6. If you need to submit a publication with a large file (over 2GB but under 10GB), upload an empty .txt file instead, and complete the submission. Please send a request to ruor@uottawa.ca with the subject line: upload large file
  7. Continue your submission and, if required by a publisher’s policy, select the end date of the embargo period at the embargo step.
  8. Optionally, select a Creative Commons licence. Learn more about Creative Commons licences in uO Research.
  9. Complete your deposit by granting uO Research a non-exclusive distribution license.
  10. Once your research is accepted for deposit by uO Research staff you will receive email notification with a permanent URL for your entry.

  4. Complete your deposit by granting uO Research a non-exclusive distribution license.
  5. Once your research is accepted for deposit by uO Research staff you will receive email notification with a permanent URL for your entry.
  6. If you would like a DOI assigned to your work, please send a request to ruor@uottawa.ca with your permanent URL.

If there is no collection for your department, email ruor@uottawa.ca to request that one be created.
