Organic molecules were incorporated by different methods. The first method consisted of the direct intercalation of organic species during the metal hydroxide precipitation process. The second method was based on an ionic exchange process between the chloride anions of the hydrotalcite-like compound and the organic anions. The materials which resulted from the application of these two methods were pillared layered structures. The direct incorporation of a series of long chain aliphatic dicarboxylic acids (HO$\sb2$C-(CH$\sb2)\rm\sb{p}$-CO$\sb2$H) with $\rm0\leq p\leq14$, in the interlayers of pyroaurite yielded lamellar organominerals characterized by an interlayer spacing between 9.7 A and 22.8 A. These d$\sb{001}$ values are indicative of a quasi-perpendicular orientation of the dicarboxylic acid moeities with respect to the brucite-like layers. The aliphatic methylene chains are very rigid and adopt all-trans conformations. The anionic exchange of chloride ions with phenylphosphonic acid molecules ($\rm C\sb6H\sb5PO\sb3H\sb2$) in the mixed Li-Al hydroxide system, resulted in the formation of a layered compound with an interlayer d$\sb{001}$ spacing of 14.1 A. This value is consistent with a perpendicular anti-parallel orientation of phenylphosphonic acid groups. The products thus obtained exhibited significant microporosity and were stable up to 450$\sp\circ$C. Furthermore, for the intercalation of dicarboxylic acids by anionic exchange of chloride in the mixed Zn-Al hydroxide system, it was shown by careful infrared analysis, that despite the tilted orientation of the aliphatic chains, the -CH$\sb2$- groups are in an all-trans conformation. When heated to 1000$\sp\circ$C, the intercalated products were formed a mixture of ZnO and ZnAl$\sb2$O$\sb4$. Finally, polyacrylic acid ( (-CH$\sb2$-CH-CO$\sb2$H) $\rm\sb{n}$, M.W = 5,000) was intercalated in the interlamellar space of the mixed Li-Al hydroxide by exchange with chloride. This reaction was carried out in direct fashion, without the initial use of a monomer, and without a preliminary intercalation step.314 p.Chemistry, Inorganic.Intercalation d'anions organiques dans des composés lamellaires de type hydrotalcite.Thesis
