Abstract: Developments in Artificial Intelligence (AI) has the potential to improve military decision making like never before. An AI can be described as a computer system which simulates human thinking and reasoning process in order to complete a task. Previous AI designs were inadequate for military planning. However, with the development in Artificial Neural Networks AIs should not only be capable of supporting military commanders but can provide better plans than military commanders can imagine. This research paper will explore the positives and negatives of using of Artificial Intelligence in military decision making. The research paper will begin by discussing the different approaches for creating AI. Afterwards, the paper will examine the history of AI development and how Artificial Neural Networks can overcome the challenges in military planning that previous AI designs could not. The paper will conclude will an analysis of AI being used alongside human military commanders, and AI acting autonomously in military decision making.
